Rolling Stones exhibition launches

Exhibitionism: Saatchi Gallery’s Rolling Stones retrospective opens its doors.

It was 1962 when The Rolling Stone’s first pouted and thrusted their way into our hearts with their mind-blowing rock and roll, and an incredible 54 years later the iconic rockers turned out in force to open the first ever retrospective of the band titled: Exhibitionism.

The exhibition spans two floors of the King's Roads Saatchi Gallery, which is a stone's throw away from Edith Grove, the street where the band lived in the early days along with Brian Jones. Nine different rooms covering over 1,750 square metres, each with its own distinctly designed environment, will be used to show how the band has changed the way rock music is experienced.

It will also include original stage designs, a 3D simulation of what it is like to be backstage, and then on the stage, with The Stones in addition to their collaborations with various big-name artists and designers such as Andy Warhol, Alexander McQueen and Martin Scorsese.

The opening was a star studded affair with all four surviving members, Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts, all taking the opportunity to reminisce over their amazing career. Also present on the red carpet was Ronnie Wood’s son Jesse Wood with his wife Fearne Cotton and Georgia May Jagger, the 24-year-old model daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, who bears more than a passing resemblance to her legendary father as she pouted in a pinstripe suit and platforms.

The only thing more impressive than their ground-breaking music is how the band themselves have survived all the rock and roll antics over the decades, and when asked what he wants the Stones legacy to be, Keith Richards replied: "To keep going. I ain't looking to kick the bucket yet, honey."
