RiRi Breaks Beatles' Record

Rihanna has broken the longstanding Beatles' record for total number of weeks spent at number one and is now closing in on Mariah Carey's all time best...

Pop powerhouse Rihanna has overtaken the legendary Beatles’ record for total number of weeks spent at number one in the US. The Barbadian songstress’ latest sonic offering, Work, has just secured a ninth straight week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, giving her a winning total of 60 weeks at number one with 14 songs across her career – one more than the Fab Four.

Next in RiRi’s all-conquering sights is fellow diva Mariah Carey’s record of all-time chart toppers, whose record is 79 weeks – although some of the songs that have contributed to Rihanna’s milestone have in fact been collaborations with other artists, including her 2008 hit Live Your Life with rapper T.I and two Eminem tracks, Monster and Love the Way You Lie, in which she featured solely in the choruses.

Rihanna’s song Work, which featured rapper and ex-boyfriend Drake, is taken from her latest album Anti, which also features the track Needed Me – a video for which will be released later today.
