We were all a little devastated when Downton Abbey favourite Matthew Crawley was killed off last Christmas, and it makes us dread this year’s Christmas Special a little… But whilst we are able to separate reality from fiction, on-screen wife Michelle Dockery tells Observer Magazine.
“People will consider me a part of their lives for however long Downton Abbey lasts,” she says. “It's a lovely thing to feel as an actor. I get a delivery of letters about once a month. I even had bereavement cards after the last series.” Blimey!
Despite playing the very well-spoken Lady Mary in the series, she says that’s definitely not her real accent. “I'm a proud Essex girl. I'll never sound like Lady Mary, although my accent has softened over the years. But it comes back if I've had a couple of drinks or if I'm around my family.”
