Title: GQ
GQ magazine has hailed Ian McEwan's latest novel as possibly the best of the year.
Solar tells the story of bumbling physicist Professor Michael Beard, who discovers a clean energy source that he believes will solve the world's global warming problems.
He sees his photosynthesis-mimicking device as a prime opportunity for him to capitalise from the potential catastrophe that is gripping the earth.
The magazine likened the novel to McEwan's earlier works such as The Cement Garden and The Child In Time, suggesting that the author's star will rise even further as the book gains popularity.
Despite McEwan's love for including intricate details - perhaps a reflection of his painstaking research - the novel is well worth a read, according to GQ.
"With the probable exception of his friend Martin Amis's The Pregnant Widow, Solar will be the most talked-about British novel of the year," the magazine suggested.
University of Sussex and University of East Anglia graduate Ian McEwan also wrote Atonement, which was made into a hit movie.
