It must be tough growing up as the youngest of three boys when your two older brothers are successful actors – particularly when one just played Thor and is now an Avenger - but speaking to Men’s Health magazine in the May issue, it seems Liam Hemsworth can definitely hold his own.
Until recently Hemsworth has been best known as Chris Hemsworth’s little brother or even Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend but with the release of new film The Hunger Games, the actor is becoming well-known in his own right.
In the film, Hemsworth plays Gale, best friend of main character Katniss Everdeen, who spends most of his time in the woods climbing trees and hunting, meaning he had to bulk up to look the part.
He and his co-stars worked with US trainer Barry Landreth. To build up their strength they would have to use power-lifting moves with heavy weights and low reps, then build up their stamina with gentler exercises of 12-15 reps.
After months of carrying out the training, Hemsworth’s 6ft 3 frame is now pretty buff and to maintain his physique he works out six times a week, boxing, doing weights or hard cardio on the treadmill.
If The Hunger Games doesn’t propel Hemsworth into Hollywood’s spotlight, then no doubt his next film The Expendables 2 co-starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzenegger definitely will. Chris Hemsworth best watch out... his younger brother may soon be stealing his super-hero crown!
