Those of you with a Good Housekeeping magazine subscription will just be receiving your May issue, featuring Celia Imrie looking rather lovely on the front cover in a fuchsia dress that we’re a little jealous of.
If you managed to catch the creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes’ mini-series Titanic last night you’ll have seen the actress playing Northerner Grace Rushton, whose husband has treated her to a first-class ticket on the ship.
The first episode has received mixed reviews – each episode sees the ship sink from different perspectives, but some say that this barely allows the storyline to develop before the ship has sunk. It remains to be seen whether “Drownton Abbey”, as it’s been nicknamed, will be a hit but whatever you think, like its predecessor, you can’t deny how exquisite the sets and costumes are.
When asked why she thinks people are still fascinated by the Titanic 100 years later, Imrie says: “I think because it makes you ask yourself worrying questions about how you would have tried to save yourself – my character goes to great lengths to save her dog. I always think to myself, ‘Well, I bet I would have got off, but that would probably have involved treading on somebody else’s head!’
“That’s what’s so compelling about the story – it’s endlessly fascinating. No matter how many times it’s been done – and you always know the ending – the audience is going to be riveted.”
