With Christmas party season just around the corner, the launch of Skinny Prosseco can only be good news. The brainchild of Amanda Thomson, of Thomson & Scott , ‘Skinny Prosecco’ is currently on sale at a number of retailers, including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Fenwicks and demand is proving so high that it may hit major British supermarkets as early as next Spring.
"My mission is to be completely open about what we're drinking and cut sugar where it's not needed," states Thomson on the brand's website. "We're not counting calories, but we share them for transparency. My mission is for us to drink better and cleaner."
The grapes used in the Skinny prosecco are 100 per cent organic fruit grown in the foothills of the Dolomite mountain range in Italy, and with the current trend for clean eating and the government’s crackdown on sugar, the new tipple could truly be the future of Happy Hour. While a bottle of regular Prosecco contains around 12-15g of sugar per litre, the new diet version has half that amount, with around 7g per litre. In comparison, a 355ml can of Coca-Cola contains around 39g of sugar.
The diet fizz currently costs £17.99 at Selfridges. The Thomson & Scott Skinny range also includes a diet Grand Cru Brut and Rose, which is £330 for a case of six bottles.
