We’re so excited for GBBO to start, we’ve already been catching up on old episodes, swotting up on the new contestants and getting our Tuesday night snacks lined up! What is your idea of a baking showstopper? Any examples in your magazines that we can try to replicate?!
That’s a tricky one to define! We see so many incredible bakes and when our readers send us their creations we’re always so impressed with how much love and care they put into making and decorating them. For us, showstoppers are quite simply bakes that make you say ‘wow!’ and our readers are a super talented bunch! Whether it’s something simple like chocolate chip cookies, or a perfectly smooth buttercream-coated cake, you’ll find plenty of showstoppers to inspire you in Baking Heaven and Cake Decorating Heaven.
What are the baking and decorating trends in 2018?
We’ve seen lots of exciting trends popping up this year and there are definitely too many to list, but our recent favourites have to be the whimsical mermaid and unicorn cakes – everyone went crazy for those! We’ve also fallen in love with the modern cakes that are all over Instagram right now – think naked cakes, blush tones, succulents and metallics, all of which you’ll find in recent issues of Cake Decorating Heaven. Don’t miss our Christmas issue, as we’ll be predicting the decorating trends for 2019!
What do you prefer to bake, whether sweet or savoury?
This won’t come as a surprise… I love baking sweet. There’s no contest! Decorating cakes and cupcakes appeals to my creative side and although I love the smell of a homemade loaf of bread wafting through the house (and who doesn’t?), there’s nothing better than a freshly baked cupcake with a thick frosting of beautifully piped buttercream and a cuppa. Heaven!
