Having seen the trailer for the next instalment of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, a few weeks ago, we can’t wait for November to roll around so that we can see the cast back in action, as well as welcome a few new faces.
Two new characters are previous Hunger Games victors Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason, who are played by Sam Claflin and Jena Malone. The pair caught up with Glamour to discuss their parts.
Speaking about the part of Johanna, Jena says they wanted to get her absolutely right. “I know they saw every single actress from here ‘til Tuesday,” she says. “They wanted to find someone who didn’t just physicalize this character but could also scare people. I don’t know what I did—I guess I scared the hell out of them.”
Sam admits that he didn’t think he stood a particularly good chance of being cast as the gorgeous Finnick. “Finnick is supposed to be this godlike creature,” he says. “I remember sitting in the audition room and this kid walked in. He was seriously one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen. And I was just, Nah, this is never going to happen.”
