What is the best part of being the editor of Red?
The intelligent conversation with our readers.
On last month’s cover you have the incredible Salma Hayek, what qualities do you look for in your cover stars?
Salma is gorgeous and sexy and has an incredible joie de vivre, but what makes her a Red woman is her substance and smarts.
What are the challenges of being a magazine editor?
Bringing all the different characters who contribute to the magazine together to create one coherent voice is definitely an art, but I have to say that I absolutely love it.
Your magazine prides itself on engaging the ‘busy thirty-something woman,’ how is this reflected in your content?
The Red woman is busily striving to be the best she can be across so many areas of life – career, family (whether she has kids or not), wellness and the home and Red strives to support that. Of course no-one succeeds in every area of their life all the time and the philosophy of Red is very warm and forgiving. We definitely believe in the ‘perfectly imperfect’ life.
With such a breadth of topics covered from travel to beauty, how do you keep on top of what’s hot in women’s lifestyle?
I am a voracious reader and internet surfer; just endlessly curious about life, women and culture. The school gate mums are also a pretty useful focus group.
What is your favourite way to relax once an issue is completed?
Scooting home in time to stride across Hampstead Heath with my kids.
