After eight years, Michelle Obama’s time as FLOTUS is drawing to a close – and to celebrate American Vogue have provided her fans with an in-depth look at the things Michelle got up to whilst the White House was her family’s abode.
Wearing a gorgeous Carolina Herrara gown, Michelle looks poised yet relaxed on the cover – her third since husband Barack took office. The accompanying feature was written over a period of several months, and highlights Michelle’s fantastic charitable work across her eight years of being the First Lady.
With stunning portrait shots taken by world famous photographer Annie Lebowitz, the article is unsurprisingly titled ‘The First Lady the World Fell in Love With’ and will be one of the last in-depth magazine appearances Michelle does before the Obama’s relinquish power.
“I was looking out on the South Lawn and the Washington Monument and it had just rained and the grass was really green and everything popped a little bit more,” she says. “It’s so beautiful. And for that moment I thought, I’m going to miss waking up to this, having access to this anytime I want.
“But on the flip side…it’s time,” she adds. “I think our democracy has it exactly right: two terms, eight years. It’s enough. Because it’s important to have one foot in reality when you have access to this kind of power.”
