Marc Jacobs's fashion campaigns have always been innovative, inspiring and distinctly memorable; who could forget Victoria Beckham posing with her legs stuck out of a MJ shopping bag, back in 2008? However, he has taken things to the next level with his Autumn Winter 2016 campaign images, all shot by David Sims.
Goth rocker Marilyn Manson, alt queen Courtney Love and rap superstar Missy Elliot all model for the NYC designer, in shots which are a glamorously gothic vision of black lace, feathers, sequins and stripes, each outfit topped off with the collection’s Bowie-esque towering platform boots.
Cara Delevingne, in a now rare modelling moment, lends some supermodel kudos alongside her supremely talented indie musician girlfriend, St Vincent, who wears an outfit that could have been lifted directly from Helena Bonham Carter’s wardrobe.
Hollywood’s ‘Carrie’, Sissy Spacek, and cultural icons Kembra Pfahler and Genesis P-Orridge also star in the campaign. As fashion’s original wild child, Marc Jacobs has never played by the rules when it comes to presenting his collections – he once sent all of his models out on the runway at once, making for the world’s fastest fashion show – and this isn’t the first time he has cast a diverse array of famous faces. Bette Midler, Cher, Lady Gaga, Sophia Coppola and Beth Ditto have previously either posed or sashayed for Marc and this latest campaign is just another example of his inimitable approach to fashion.
