It thrilled fans of the Royal Family with an intimate portrait of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s early life together, and now it seems that Netflix’s big-budget production The Crown was worth every penny as the show has been nominated for 5 BAFTA awards.
Claire Foy gets the nod for her riveting portrayal of our Queen Lizzie, whilst Vanessa Kirby, Jared Harris and John Lithgow also got nominations for their roles as Princess Margaret, King George VI and Winston Churchill respectively.
Other notable nominations include Fleabag, Stranger Things will compete against The Night Of, The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Transparent and The Night Of for the international award. One notable exception, however, is Tom Hiddleston who wowed in the John Le Carre adaption, The Night Manager – before baffling with a bizarre award speech at the Golden Globes award.
