If you have a Rolling Stone magazine subscription then we’re sure you’ll be aware that the magazine don’t shy away from a little bit of controversy when it comes to their covers – however, many are now accusing the magazine of going one step too far by putting Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover of the latest issue.
Many have claimed that the cover glamorises his crime and makes him look like a “rock star”. One outraged reader on Twitter said: "I am so disappointed with Rolling Stone magazine… You have just made him a rock star. How could you?"
The tag line reads, "The bomber – how a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster" – despite the fact that he has not yet been found guilty of the crime.
Despite trying to paint him as a criminal, the Bob Dylan-esque cover has over-stepped the mark in many people’s eyes, specifically Bostonians. One wrote: "As a longtime resident of Boston, and someone who worked for years in both the music business and for one of the two major newspapers here, I have to ask you, what is wrong with your editor?! Why on earth would you put this scumbag on the cover?"
Whether you believe they are simply writing an investigative piece on Tsarnaev’s past or going for the shock factor, there’s no doubt that the issue has now become a must-read.
