This month marks the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ debut album Please Please Me and to celebrate Q magazine have produced a special issue dedicated to the Fab Four, which those of you with a subscription to the magazine will get any day now.
Sir Paul McCartney recalls the moment he heard Oasis’ claims that they were going to be just as successful (if not more so) than The Beatles.
He says: "I'm actually kind of honoured - they could be copying anyone - even when things happen like Oasis saying, We are the next Beatles. But I also think, Listen lads you can't say that. And don't say that, because it's probably the kiss of death!”
However, he knows that it’s not always the bands who claim to be like other musicians. "In Oasis's cases, I think it was coming from them. In others it's the record label or management and that's never a good idea: The poor band! Now go and do better than The Beatles did. Not an easy task."
