After all the drama concerning the departure of the Great British Bake Off from BBC to Channel 4, fans of the world’s most well-loved baking talent show have been needing a bit of happiness to soften the blow of Mel, Sue and Mary’s imminent departure. And at the National Television Awards on 25th January, they got it.
Up against Nicole Scherzinger, David Walliams and also soon-to-be-departing judging legend Len Goodman, the 81-year-old Berry thought she didn’t stand a chance. But even so, the explosion of happiness from the national treasure when her name was called, was a sight to behold.
After a moment of complete shock, the baker extraordinaire leapt to her feet and punched the air with abandon – perhaps a warning to her ex-judging partner Paul Hollywood after the flint-eyed former judge decided to follow the dough to Channel 4 that she’s not out of the game yet.
