To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Kirsty Young will be chatting with legendary Man Utd and England winger, David Beckham. The 41-year-old former national captain will be discussing the music that has shaped his life, before picking some essentials before being castaway on their fictional desert island.
“75 is a birthday worth celebrating and having David Beckham as my castaway seems like the perfect gift,” presenter Young told The Sun. “His sporting legacy is of course extraordinary. And along with his charisma, cultural impact and humanitarian work, he is a modern man of many parts. He’ll be a fascinating guest to welcome on to my little interview island!”
And Golden Balls – who will be appearing on the show on 29th January – is also looking forward to share some of his favourite music with his fans. But will the Spice Girls make the list?
“I’m delighted to join Desert Island Discs for its 75th anniversary celebrations,” said Becks. “Music has been a huge part of my – and my family’s – life and it is a real pleasure to highlight that on such an iconic programme.”
Prior to Beckham’s appearance on the show, a three-hour celebratory special will air on 28th January on Radio 4, and extended versions of many of the show’s past interviews will be added to the online archive, as well.
