Christmas Comes Early?

The sun is shining and the majority of us are still hoping some more warm weather is on the way as we enter the last month of Summer, but in London department store Selfridges Christmas is already getting underway…

Situated on the fourth floor the ‘store’ opened yesterday and is bedecked with over 50,000 decorations with an expansion expected as the months go on. With 145 shopping days still left until the big day, some are asking whether it’s too soon to unleash the Christmas spirit on unsuspecting shoppers, but the esteemed store is taking pride in its winter wonderland, saying it is aimed at the millions of summer tourists who won’t get the chance to return in winter and want to take home some authentic British baubles.




“Despite the summer weather, we’re in full festive mode here at Selfridges. We’ve been working on this year’s Christmas Shop since Christmas last year,” said Geraldine James, the stores Christmas home and decorations buyer.

“We have so many customers visiting from all over the world and eager to snap up festive souvenirs on their summer holidays, which they can’t buy at home. So, we have to make sure we’re ready to showcase Christmas decorations they will truly treasure.”
