Nicole Kidman Reflects on Time with Tom

Red’s November cover star opens up about her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise.

During the nineties, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were Hollywood’s golden couple and their separation in 2001 was treated with the same level of sorrow as the breakdown of ‘Brangelina’. Both stars are notoriously tight-lipped about their private lives, but in her November interview with Red, Kidman finally opens up about her marriage to the Top Gun actor.

“I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I’m like, ‘What?’,” she revealed. “You look at Taylor Swift, I mean how old is she? She’s 26. I had two kids by the time I was 27 and I’d been married for four years. But that’s what I wanted.”

The Eyes Wide Shut actress has now been happily married to country singer, Keith Urban, for 10 years. Whilst she admits the first three months of her second marriage were tough, ultimately she considers the experience to be a positive one, saying: “When you’re older, you’ve been through things, you’ve made mistakes. So you come into it [a second marriage], still giddy, but wanting it to last. We always consider the ‘us.’ We say, ‘Is this going to be good for us?’ It’s the simplest phrase, but it works.”

Cruise and Kidman adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, when they were together and she and Urban also have two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. In her interview the actress talks candidly about her journey as a mother.

“Motherhood is about the journey,” the actress said. “There are going to be incredible peaks and valleys, whether you are an adopting mother or a birth mother. What a child needs is love.”

Wearing a dusky pink autumn coat with her trademark red locks, 49-year-old star looks stunning on the cover, but the biggest revelation of all is that she would rather spend the night on the sofa than going to a glamourous soiree.

“I don’t have that FOMO thing: fear of missing out,” Kidman says. “I can stay home and not go to the party. It’s so much nicer here at home in my jammies."
