Hiddleswift is Over

Friends, humans, countrymen…this is not a drill. The brief candle of James Bond-frontrunner-turned-t-shirt-wearing-ocean-frolicker Tom Hiddleston and the pop superstar Taylor Swift’s love appears to have blown out, leaving fans of Hiddleswift bereft.

We were there on day one, when Swift and DJ Calvin Harris put their 15-month relationship to bed, leaving a gaping hole in Instagram and our hearts. We saw Taytay and The Night Manager canoodling amongst the stones of an exotic beach-front, a brief glimmer of hope in the darkness. We were swept up in the deluge, the veritable tsunami of cover paparazzi shots – Hiddleswift at the airport, Hiddleswift in Rome, Hiddleswift at another airport: we were hooked.

As rumours and ruminations rebounded exponentially across the web, and the Kardashian clan did their best to break our two protagonists apart, Hiddleswift stayed strong. They were a beacon of togetherness at all times, be they intertwined like eels in the far corner of Ryan Reynold’s dead-eyed stare, or splashing around celebrating Thanksgiving in soppy slogan-covered clothes. Until now.

The current explanation of this blindsiding decision circulates around Tom’s desire to take TayTay to the Emmy awards – with Swift being uncomfortable with such a public display of affection upon a red-carpet with no sandstone bluffs nearby behind which to badly hide from prying eyes.

Though, like the elegant phoenix rising from the ashes, the story may well not be over. Could Hiddleswift become the muse that young Swift needs to pen her next album? Will we see them again, shrouded by sunglasses and oversized hats, attempting to reconcile in the weeks to come?

No doubt, these questions will continue until one party or another pops their head above the parapet to address the speculation via a heartfelt Instagram post. Until then, we must be content with the knowledge that we were all as much a part of this as Hiddleswift themselves, wait for the Emmys to roll around and scour eBay dilligently for one 'I ♥? T.S' t-shirt, worn only once…
