We may have some exciting news for those of you soap-lovers with a Radio Times magazine subscription – Dallas is back!
The creators of the original “Who shot... ?” storyline and one of the most popular soaps of the 1980’s, Dallas has been recreated as a modern day TV series and is due to start in America next summer after just being commissioned by US network TNT.
The series will feature original cast members Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing, Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing and Linda Gray as J.R.’s wife Sue Ellen as well as new (but familiar, if you ever watch Desperate Housewives) faces Brenda Strong as Bobby’s new wife Ann, Josh Henderson as J.R.’s son John Ross and Jesse Metcalf as Bobby’s son Christopher.
And just like their fathers before them, it seems that John Ross and Christopher will not be shy with the ladies... queue a love triangle with Jordana Brewster’s character, Elena.
There are currently no plans to air the series in Britain, but after the popularity of the original soap with UK viewers it’s likely that one of our major channels will snap it up.
No doubt the series hopes to emulate other television series’ which have kick-started with a new cast years after the original was set, such as teen-drama 90210, BBC’s Upstairs Downstairs and even Doctor Who.
In the meantime, be sure to check your Radio Times magazine subscription to find out what’s going on in your favourite soaps. We hear there’s adoption drama in Eastenders this week, a baby scare in Coronation Street and looming jail time in Emmerdale.
Even still, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the new Dallas will find its way across the pond, no doubt Radio Times magazine will keep us up-to-date.
Let’s just hope we don’t wake up next year to find it was all a dream...
